The Special Hope Foundation was started in June of 2002 by John and Lynne O'Hara. While they were blessed with three typical children, they were exposed to children with different physical and developmental challenges. With the support of friends and their local church, they recognized that they were in a position to make a difference in the lives of others.
It was during this period of exploration that the idea of a foundation was conceived and developed. Special Hope was created to provide funds for organizations that champion the causes of those less able. It is the goal of the O’Hara’s and the foundation board to not only supply much needed finances to worthy projects, but to break down negative stereotypes associated with the disabled community. By building up programs that empower people with special needs, it is hoped that public perception as a whole will be impacted.
